General Description: The Children’s exploration area at the National Gallery offers various activities for the little ones.
Before entering the main centre for the kids is the Art corridor, currently includes an interactive installation inspired by artist’s Han Sai Por’s sculpture Tetrahedron-tetrahedron. Kids get to play with get to place some triangular pyramid form shapes on the wall.
Once in the main centre, these are the following spaces that kids may explore:
- The Enchanted Tree House Trails – A playscape where storybook characters come alive
- The Project Gallery currently features Artist Betty Susiarjo’s The Blue Who Swims All This Way which features large soft sculptures which kids can walk up-close to and go under/beneath to explore
- The Children’s museum, currently features an exhibit on ceramics with virtual play stations
- The Children’s museum workshop, currently tries to introduce the various aspects of print making. With displays to explain the concepts of shade, foreground-background etc for eg.. Kids may enjoy making impressions of stamps superimposing step by step, the fore ground, middle ground & back ground to a scene.
Separate from the extent of the Children’s Centre, closer to the cafeteria, are 2 other areas kids may explore for free:
- A Virtual Forest-scape entitled ” Who’s in the Woods” is by far the most popular. Kids select an animal of choice, colour and send it off to the virtual jungle scene projected on the screen
- Along the corridor area features an exhibit of colourful cages which holds various golden objects to be discovered
